Spotlight of the week - Coven Society

Merry Christmas to all Students! This is the last week before we go on the Christmas Holidays and maybe the last Spotlight of this year! That’s why we have decided to infuse this festive season with a touch of spirituality, enchantment, and the exploration of ancient wisdom, providing an avenue for students to delve into the mystique of witches, spirituality, and tarot cards.

Were you always fascinated by the unexplained? Did you always dress up as a witch on Halloween? Have you always been interested in crystals, plants, and tarot cards?

"Welcome, traveller, to the very heart of destiny's path!" The Coven Society!

The society ran by manager Lillith Tolley, Finance Manager Alex Pointon, Communications Officer Nicky Beard and Wellbeing Officer Lilith Drizzle.

A coven refers to a group or gathering of witches. However, there's no need to be afraid! They are a closely-knit and safe community that's always willing to help and assist those seeking knowledge and understanding. You could say that they are like a family.

At the Coven, people from different backgrounds come together to explore spirituality and connect with like-minded individuals. Some come to learn, while others come to socialise or share their own knowledge. The aim is to offer a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone to grow and explore their spirituality. So, no matter your path and interest, here is a place for you and always.

Essentially, the Coven provides a community for those interested in niche religions and faiths, as well as a space to explore their spirituality.

The Coven Activities and Events

The Coven organises a diverse range of events, with plenty more planned for the future. They have previously collaborated with groups such as the Myth and RAMS societies to host events such as the Monster Ball and the Valentine's Bash. The Coven also hosts alternative club nights at the LRV to celebrate their favourite holidays.

At events like Tavern, a multi-society event hosted in Verve full of quests, board games and music, they provided a tarot reader alongside being one of the most involved groups.

In addition to their major events, they have also organised several smaller events like group meditation, pumpkin carving, and weekly meetups called Witchy Wednesdays. These events include presentations related to Paganism and spirituality. Some of the topics for this year's presentations are the Wheel of the Year, crystals, and an introduction to Paganism.

Members have the chance to create and deliver their own presentations on any topic that interests them, with a new subject being covered each week. These topics are usually based on suggestions from members. The group has even collaborated with other groups like SAMS (the Anime and Manga Society) to host events, such as movie nights during Squeezebox Nights.

In the future, the Coven has plans to assist in hosting various Tavern events with unique themes and specialised cocktails or mocktails that are exclusive to the event. They are also currently organising events with different societies, exploring Discord game nights, wellbeing walks, and yoga.
