Opportunity description:
|
Father Hudson’s welcomes dedicated and empathetic volunteers to make a difference in the lives of socially isolated or lonely over-55’s.
As a befriender with Father Hudson’s Care, you’re expected to dedicate a maximum of 1 hour a week to either call or visit your befriendee, help them feel heard and a little less alone in the world.
The community support worker will be just a call away to guide you along this path, get you through the initial volunteering procedure and help you navigate the ups and downs that comes with building a human connection
You aren’t expected to run errands for your befriendee. The extent of the support provided is at the discretion and convenience of the befriender.
Call/Visit timings are flexible as long as it’s in mutual agreement with the befriendee.
Travel expenses will be covered.

Skills and development:

Students have the opportunity to brighten a person’s week with just a visit or phone-call, they have a chance to observe and understand the perspective of people who are anxious or socially unmotivated.
Students can examine systemic imbalances through contact with someone with direct experience of them and learn the transition of history and culture of Stoke-on-Trent from the people who have lived through them
Students have an opportunity to develop their social and communication skills
Training certificates and educational / professional references will be provided.
