Rika Paderes

Hi there!

I’m Rika, currently, a 3rd year and Course Representative for the Concept Art for Games & Film course, sticking around to do my Master’s degree next year. I’m part of the Death Saving Bros slate with Xander Blackburn (Society Manager) and Dan Lorimer/Noggie (Finance Officer). I’m the currently one of the Comms Officers for the Digital Art Society (DAS). You might’ve also seen me actively talking in the Discord server, at university events as a public figure, or a few of Myth’s socials!

Our goal at DAS was to kickstart it into life. Now that it feels like we’ve accomplished that, it seems like the right time to step down from DAS and take part in a society where I know I can use my social skills for the benefit of Myth.

Over the years, I’ve completely fallen in love with the Myth society and its members. It’s high time I gave back to all of you who make Myth the big family that it is and to the future students who will join. I truly believe I can accomplish this from a position as a Communications Officer.

If I take on the position of a Comms Officer, you can expect these things:

  • Continuation of Myth’s previous successes. With close ties and huge respect for the previous committee members, you can expect me to take the continuation of their success very seriously. The weekly events, the socials, the special events – you can expect those to continue!
  • Strong committee presence. Whether it’s on our online platforms or our IRL socials, you can expect some of us there for you to say hello to, or at least have a very easy way to get a hold of us.
  • Cross-society collaborations. Taking advantage of my connections with other societies opens up a whole new avenue of activities for Myth.
  • Listening to your feedback! If you have suggestions or feedback, we’ll discuss them during bi-weekly meetings and see how we can address the things you need.

And here are some of the things we want to do!

  • Put more trust in our sub-committee. Using the stellar infrastructure from Myth’s previous year, our slate plans on giving more responsibility to our sub-committee members so that the main committee can pour our efforts into all the other stuff – boring or new ideas.
  • Actively maintaining cross-society relationships. From my work as a Comms Officer previously, I’ve gotten to know quite a few of the other societies and built a rapport with them. That opens up the opportunity for lots of different events for us to try out! Trips with the re-enactment society, character design workshops with DAS - it'll be fun to get to know the other societies!
  • Opening a virtual suggestion box. Hopefully, this means that your ideas, feedback, and suggestions don’t fall on deaf ears. We’ll work on refining a good way to do this!

(And yes, we plan on dressing up as cool D&D characters at the Society Fayre!)
